Challenges in adopting early trends and options for designers in Tomorrow's Marketplace Today!-
We are opening the show to a few members of Fashion Trade, select customers, Press and Bloggers or - Fashion Is Business.
After the Hype of Fashion Week desigers
and labels need to sell and in these times traditional 7th avenue
tactics won't work. We are in the business of design, much of todays
protocols are not new to the independent designers. It is inevitable
that the Fashion Week platform would evolve. We have
been privately testing this as an affordable alternatie for Independent
and local Business. This weekend we test our Virtual Fashion and Trade
show Platform. Thus far it has been private, this is your chance to
attend! Beyond the runway it is about sales. We're preparing an
article for our members about the findings of our project . We want
to share! To receive "Alternative Style- Beyond the Runway when we
make it available in early march select - Alternative Style ticket!
February March,April; It's time to take care of business! This week we will run "Take 5"
on February 13th to celebrate Fashion Week,
and we will select a Brooklyn designer for the last scheduled run of our
test for virtual trade platform. This week
we also hope to make the First revelation of our Mobile platform . We are so excited!
We are always asked why we do not focus on the
traditional Fashion Runway Presentation. Quite frankly they are too costly with
little or no positive results for the sector we specialize in. Yes the city
makes over $700 million; An effectively
produced 7th Avenue production can cost $50k- $100000, but unless
funded a designer can be wiped out. These shows are best suited for companies that are expecting sales in the
million plus category. Which means that the designer label should be prepared
to produce quantities and definitely qualities to cover those cost. We usually
recommend going straight to market. In fact one of our designers was able to go
to Magic, not only turn a $7000 investment into a $200,000 order (they cap for
his production run) but also pick up 3 Customers for his Bespoke men's line of $4000 plus
suits.
Many are swayed by the hype and press but check the
numbers, the financially successful companies, seldom do shows, relying instead
on sales and trade shows! We are result oriented, "quality" focused. We are
"Hyper Local" and more "Boutique" and "private label", translated this means
that designers are able to have shorter production turnarounds and so react
better and quicker to market turns!
Translated this means that local
designers will show ImmediateSpring summer direct to
market in May. We will have a Trade event in
April for local boutiques and private Buyers. In late August/September we will schedule a spring
Summer 2010 trade event with those aiming for larger markets in
mind.
Williamsburg Fashion Weekend continues to show the work of designers that have their fingers on the hip and now, with a nod to the past and wide-open eyes on the future. In this, our third season, we've assembled a group of eight Brooklyn-based designers who make one-of-a- kind or small-run collections, with an emphasis on fair-trade, eco- friendliness, and artisan techniques that
celebrate the handmade and the visionary. for the The Designers:
