Learn to use Social Media and New technology to Design Online!

Sew Social an Online Design Workshop from Brooklyn Fashion Week, starts during social Media Week NY, and runs through February.  The project hosted at www.28squared.com  explores how Technology affect how we "do" fashion... Showing & Selling, Sourcing,  Design... even Teaching and Training. It looks at the Global implications of access and the challenges in new opportunity!

Brooklyn Fashion Week presents:-

You can have one of these in your closet in a color of your choice, custom made to your sizesimply by signing up for a VIP (Free) ticket and responding if selected! During Feb 1-5). One per day!

Sew Social is a fun interactive primer into Fashion using Technology! During the month attendees move from research through product development, marketing, sales and distribution, using social media and tech tools! They are able to define and develop core concepts from which to build a prototype that not only fits design the directives, but serves consumers needs and sets them apart as a unique and vital product!

Simply put design the clothes you WANT to wear! Oh yeah We’ll learn about technology too... We're all using social media to connect and market, how much can we use these tools to develop a fashion Line! Time/Date Launch Monday Feb 1st 10 am ONLINE at Social Media WeekNY which means You can attend from any corner of the globe!

We explore several tools and options that are open sources and or free

How It Works:

There are two segment, open assignments that attendees participate in during the day! As well as a live sessions Paid Attendees are designers and meet to discuss on a special network!

Our customers 'VIP" section is free we go to them for approval directives as to their needs, from time to time they vote!

During Social Media week they will have a chance tell us ( and the world) what they want in their clothing...

Why

As we prepared for 28squared and spoke to designers around the world It became evident that they lacked basic information about technology and advancement! we're fortunate in NY and now LA to have FashionCamp and a great Tech community designers have been using many of the techniques it's time to apply the technology!we needed to include designers from around the world and Online provided that opportunity!

Fashion design is not just about marketing! It takes work skill and knowledge! Hits and clicks are great but at the end of the day you need to sell and show a profit! There are several tools that can help a designers cut cost a from concept right through to delivery! Using all these and deciding what works is a challenge at the least!

Will we actually Create garments?

Yes:- that's the fun part we'll explore what open means in terms of creative license and the 'pros and cons'. since this is a group project the Group will decide the final boundaries of that license... in fact you'll get practical crash course on digital design as it relates to fashion1!

But I've never sewn...

not all designers sew! It helps to understand the elements of design, but we're borrowing heavily from the custom design tradition! Design is about creating to solve a pain or add pleasure. A designers needs to understand the problem (or task at hand) and create solutions! They then need to communicate that to a skilled technical team! We're doing an immediate wardrobe collection for Spring/Summer. you'll be surprised at what's possible!

Week1;- Research to prototypes:-Vote February 5th, 1pm-4pm

Caribbean UnityBrooklyn Fashion Week would like to express our condolences to those who lostloved one, and express our empathy with our brothers and sisters in Haiti! Please Donate to Doctors without borders if you can!

Many are wondering what to do. We ask you to turn your excess products into cash to access immediate aid. For some it is easier to donate  or make product (than cash)- so we are asking designers to collect  their excess product  for a sale, Next month (we won't interrupt your Fashion Week) all proceed to benefit Haitian Disaster Relief efforts. If you would like to donate or volunteer to coordinate, please use this contact form

We are looking for and arranging for a venue where these can be sold! If  you do not have excess. Turn your stash of Fabrics, and trims into items that can be sold specifically for Haiti Relief! Artist Cafepress has a relief program, Flickr has a photograhers Auction! Models we will need volunteers!

Image:- If You are from Brooklyn the clothing inspired by Flags of nations is an annual rite of passage. The Haitian population is a vital part of that landscape and community! 10-1 Is a reference to Caribbean unity another important aspect of Brooklyn’s diverse landscape!

The Recovery  has only just begun... apart from the immediate need for cash and supplies soon those who survive will need to rebuild! They will need supplies, tools, and yes even fabric. We will repeat this later down in year. As little as you think you have It is much more that the survivors in Haiti! If you want to join us or have your own efforts

Life goes on and we are continuing our plans but we have added a Relief program to our February www.28squared.com Program, on starting  and/or running  a fashion Business using technology! A note on Disaster Relief Efforts!

Excuse the Delay over the next couple days! Please accept my apologies for tardy delivery of any information or if our scheduled calls are put on hold! The disaster in Haiti has stuck close to home, I am from the Caribbean and earthquakes of this magnitude have been a concern for some time. As I join forces with those in my community, it has become even more apparent that the issues of technology and how they support our community needs to be addressed! Please Donate to Doctors without borders if you can!

Bridging the digital Divide:- Rebuilding Haiti will need all the help it can get  I understand the need to be diligent but there are local certified Haitian  Charitable projects. Not only are there cultural barriers but there are also language barriers. Local Haitian organizations need help (many do not have websites) preparing for the next phase! I will gladly assist in making contact!

Local Efforts to Bridge the divide! our 28 squared project carded for Feb 1-28th is underway. The challenge now and during the year is getting  wi fi or internet access into these community centers, and  getting  hardware into the hands, especially of organizations that service the elderly and youth!  Your "old Laptops" and extra phones can power communities! Please send me any  info on programs that refurbish and distribute these as well as any youth oriented tech(especially mobile) programs!
