Bweela Steptoe-

Cotton is the fabric of choice for Bweela Steptoe's Collection; the line recycles and reinvents  jeans creating distinct wearable art. Bweela extends and often complements this look with her signature"Holy TEES"; the result a deconstructed look with a couture feel. With zero waste as a company policy, scraps of left over fabric become skirts, bustiers and other  accessories. On a smaller scale the company recycles waste paper from candy wrappers, making bags, belts & patch pockets out of them.

"If we just stop for a moment and take a good look at these beautifully colored wrappers we would see the potential in them", Says Ms Steptoe, " By saving them and creating a collage out of the I turn something that most people look at as trash into art while also lessening the waste around us. I rarely throw away any of my scraps of fabric because they can always be used to make "something".

I will not speak for the various fashion promoters, you can contact them and ask them why. I will However give you a very basic brooklyn fashion primr by all accounts I am one of the newer faces in Brooklyn Fashion, arriving to the Brooklyn in the late 1990 's at the tail-end of one of the most prolific design periods in Brooklyn History.While I can share a gret deal there are others that are much ,ore qualified. In 2001 The only Showroom I have known In brooklyn the Downtown Showroonm closed in the post 911 period. That December The Brooklyn Style Program (Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce) Closed.

Since then their have been segments of fashion designers getting together to try to organize Brooklyn designers. IIn 2003 the Artist mosaic project of which Brooklyn Fashion Gallery and Brooklyn Fashion Week are part held their first Brooklyn Fashion Designers meeting. a representativefrom the Borough president's office as well the now Senator Yvette Clarke were preent. Our first Blog was written in 2004 or first fashion Blog was written in early 2005.

In the early days any search for inde, independent , fashion designers with or with out Brooklyn brings up one of our sites! Our designers have graced the Broooklyn Best stage and to this date any one researching Brooklyn Fashion comes across one ofour Sites, designers in india , Austalia, Russia and France have managed to reach out to contact us, and ask for our ass We have been open and participated or sat at the table.
