IQTEST

Garments Made From Salvaged Fabrics.

Designer Melissa Lockwood

http://www.iqtest-nyc.com

IQTEST garments are made through the upcycling of fabrics from large scale fabric cutting factories. The garments are made with the fabric that is intended for the landfills.

Many tons of fabric makes its way to landfills each day. When large quantities of garments are cut out a lot of fabric is thrown away. Much of the fabric could be recycled into rags, yarn or new fabric. Instead the fabric is thrown away adding toxic dyes to the environment. Additionally the process of creating the fabric in the first place uses energy and causes pollution.

Through IQTEST’s intervention the fabric that is salvaged is kept out of the landfills. Also IQTEST garments are made from the shapes of fabrics that are found. If large pieces are salvaged these are cut into garments and the extra made into a garment its shape facilitates. IQTEST uses as much of the salvaged fabrics as possible. IQTEST is working to keep fabrics out of the landfills. IQTEST works to inform the public about the waste and encourage reform. There are few or no laws governing the creation and disposal of textiles waste. IQTEST works to create environmentally friendly one of a kind wearable art.garments are made from the shapes of fabrics that are found.
