As NYFW rolls around we get the question Can I get A Comp to BKFW"
"Simply
put we need to understand that numbers count so If we get the sign up
early and get sponsorships the bills are paid! Yes we can do this
FREE... if not ... we'll need to pay the bills!
Today I sent a tongue in cheek answer!
Head to www.brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com sign up and share with your friends!
There are 3-4 fashion events in Brooklyn alone www.BrooklynFashionWeek.com | www.williamsburgfashionweekend.com | www.BKfashionweekend.com | www.BrooklynfashionFestival.com (not sure they operate) in Brooklyn, There is also www.Queensfashionweek.com | harlem fashion week | Nolcha Fashion Week | Africa fashion Week NY | Couture Fashion Week Full Figured Fashion Week and several Local fashion weeks have popped up across the country ...
It's about the numbers... smaller fashion weeks have the same cost and less investment!
"REAL" trade shows traditionally DO NOT allow for consumer attendance! First up space is limited at events, but new independent shows need to cover their cost hence the tickets! In fact Your event will not be listed on some industry list if others
not considered "trade are allowed access1 Recently "bloggers have had
access.. They are Now classified as "trade' ! Things are Changing and
designers want to sell and so are working on solutions!
www.BrooklynFashionWeek.com | www.williamsburgfashionweekend.com and www.Queensfashionweek.com are run by designers {not sure on the others} in response to serving
their needs... as such each show has it's own unique nature
Let's
face it technology and social media has changed things, and many new
ways to sell have emerged, hence we have a "to trade" and "To consumer"
component... Yes we expect designers to sell (at the least, set up so
they can sell) designers decide what is available only to trade and
what is available to consumers!
BTW contact the other individual events for their policy...
www.brooklynFashionweek.com has concentrated on industry related showings and presentation development! We want our designers to sellWe
are actually a support group for designers... we provide designers
with workshops and various support... including exploring new
technology and better tools to show and sell!
The fact is Designers shows cost!
We're trying to make this a free live online event ... for consumers and for trade. not just entertainment... Even then space is limited and bandwidth does cost! See http://bkstyle.brooklynfashionweek.com for sample of fashion films! Trade will be free and have exclusive access from their desk as well as be able to set up appointments with designers - Trade@BrooklynFashionweek.com
Yes
we plan separate formats... for trade and consumers, we believe that
consumers need to understand that Fashion week is Not just an
ENTERTAINMENT event! This is a BUSIENSS presentation! Imaging the
public being allowed into the boardroom at a Fortune 500 presentation
and more-so buying tickets... Sort of circus like... Before you
get defensive many will NOT appreciate my attendance at their
professional presentations, nor my hooting hollering or snapping image
of their "brilliant" ideas and sharing to the world, before I have a chance to recoup their investment!
We also understand the entertainment value of the presentations and love showing to CONSUMERS...
Consumer being the operative word! Check your closet how many pieces
by local designers do you own! Look at a fashion crowd who's CONSUMING
LOCAL DESIGN! If attendees buy from designers then their cost is
justified... In short for us fashion is BUSINESS! We are Looking at
the best way to allow our designers to present as well as their cost!
Designers will Pay a small fee to help put this event on! So we need
you to sign up and share with your list and encourage them to sign up
and share with their list!
Now for the consumer attendance
It
will be much more than "watching a live simulcast of a fashion film
with others... consumers will be able to shop the films as well as the
designers full collections! Then there will be live salons and showings
that bring the garment and the designer closer to you than expected!
How well do you see the garments on a runway!
Real
"trade" events do NOT charge attendees, the designers pay a hefty
price! Local designers CANNOT afford that price! The average local
designer will spend $4000 by the time she shows a collection.... If She
does a major show that will rise to $10000 and above and local
designers DO NOT have support! She will need another $4-5000 to bring
one item to the retail market at a competitive price point(at the
least)! So many Local designers sell but do NOT make a Profit!
With
that, I'll ask you if a fashion show cost, is expecting a comp
"supporting" the designer. Your ticket is actually a contribution to
building a designers brand and business... a vote of confidence as such
and a significant one to!
Spending builds the economy and this sector!
Simply
put we need to understand that numbers count so If we get the sign up
early and get sponsorships the bills are paid! Yes we can do this
FREE... if not ... we'll need to pay the bills! BTW we have sponsorship
and marketing opportunities for local businesses! Sponsors@brooklynfashionweek.com
As the numbers of interested increase (www.brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com)
corporations will support allowing designers to produce, sell and yes
AFFORD to cover the FULL cost of their presentations then we won't
need to comp it will be free!
As for Live
events within this these may be licensed to individual businesses
who then control the list! So I'd really love for you to head to www.brooklynfashionfilmfestival.com sign up and share with your list!
