IQTEST

Garments Made From Salvaged Fabrics.

Designer Melissa Lockwood

http://www.iqtest-nyc.com

IQTEST garments are made through the upcycling of fabrics from large scale fabric cutting factories. The garments are made with the fabric that is intended for the landfills.

Many tons of fabric makes its way to landfills each day. When large quantities of garments are cut out a lot of fabric is thrown away. Much of the fabric could be recycled into rags, yarn or new fabric. Instead the fabric is thrown away adding toxic dyes to the environment. Additionally the process of creating the fabric in the first place uses energy and causes pollution.

Through IQTEST’s intervention the fabric that is salvaged is kept out of the landfills. Also IQTEST garments are made from the shapes of fabrics that are found. If large pieces are salvaged these are cut into garments and the extra made into a garment its shape facilitates. IQTEST uses as much of the salvaged fabrics as possible. IQTEST is working to keep fabrics out of the landfills. IQTEST works to inform the public about the waste and encourage reform. There are few or no laws governing the creation and disposal of textiles waste. IQTEST works to create environmentally friendly one of a kind wearable art.garments are made from the shapes of fabrics that are found. Caribbean UnityBrooklyn Fashion Week would like to express our condolences to those who lostloved one, and express our empathy with our brothers and sisters in Haiti! Please Donate to Doctors without borders if you can!

Many are wondering what to do. We ask you to turn your excess products into cash to access immediate aid. For some it is easier to donate  or make product (than cash)- so we are asking designers to collect  their excess product  for a sale, Next month (we won't interrupt your Fashion Week) all proceed to benefit Haitian Disaster Relief efforts. If you would like to donate or volunteer to coordinate, please use this contact form

We are looking for and arranging for a venue where these can be sold! If  you do not have excess. Turn your stash of Fabrics, and trims into items that can be sold specifically for Haiti Relief! Artist Cafepress has a relief program, Flickr has a photograhers Auction! Models we will need volunteers!

Image:- If You are from Brooklyn the clothing inspired by Flags of nations is an annual rite of passage. The Haitian population is a vital part of that landscape and community! 10-1 Is a reference to Caribbean unity another important aspect of Brooklyn’s diverse landscape!

The Recovery  has only just begun... apart from the immediate need for cash and supplies soon those who survive will need to rebuild! They will need supplies, tools, and yes even fabric. We will repeat this later down in year. As little as you think you have It is much more that the survivors in Haiti! If you want to join us or have your own efforts

Life goes on and we are continuing our plans but we have added a Relief program to our February www.28squared.com Program, on starting  and/or running  a fashion Business using technology! Starting during Social Media Week NY, It would run the full 28 days of February. Details soon. Originally intended to be free we have added a cost and all profits from our Social Media Week Event will be donated To Disaster Relief Efforts! More details soon

Please post your disaster relief efforts at http://Mo.bfg2.com It will automatically appear on the Brooklyn Fashion Week Site

A note on Disaster Relief Efforts!

Excuse the Delay over the next couple days! Please accept my apologies for tardy delivery of any information or if our scheduled calls are put on hold! The disaster in Haiti has stuck close to home, I am from the Caribbean and earthquakes of this magnitude have been a concern for some time. As I join forces with those in my community, it has become even more apparent that the issues of technology and how they support our community needs to be addressed! Please Donate to Doctors without borders if you can!

Bridging the digital Divide:- Rebuilding Haiti will need all the help it can get  I understand the need to be diligent but there are local certified Haitian  Charitable projects. Not only are there cultural barriers but there are also language barriers. Local Haitian organizations need help (many do not have websites) preparing for the next phase! I will gladly assist in making contact!

Local Efforts to Bridge the divide! our 28 squared project carded for Feb 1-28th is underway. The challenge now and during the year is getting  wi fi or internet access into these community centers, and  getting  hardware into the hands, especially of organizations that service the elderly and youth!  Your "old Laptops" and extra phones can power communities! Please send me any  info on programs that refurbish and distribute these as well as any youth oriented tech(especially mobile) programs!
